A Christmas Wish
'Twas the night before Christmas, when up on The Hill
The Senate was meeting, to sneak through The Bill;
Because most Americans, oppose this healthcare
Pelosi's early vote, had the House in despair;
Harry Reid, however, was still holding court
Spending our money to buy his support;
Congress believes, (though we make a fuss),
In controlling the deficit, by taxes on us;
Or, they can handle it ...another way
Rack up the debt and our children will pay;
Real healthcare reform? …No, a big tool
To control our lives and let bureaucrats rule;
Popular opinion? …A mere media poll
Congress ignores us, lobbyists control;
A Historic Moment? …Just a big fake
The Will of the People? …Let them eat cake;
Most voters were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of pork barrels danced in their heads;
With news on the radio, and I on my PC,
I 'd just settled in, to write this to thee;
When all of a sudden there arose such a clatter,
I paid close attention to see what's the matter;
Away to the doorway, I flew like a flash
And off to the Capitol, I went with a dash;
The moon on the length of the National Mall
Shone brightly on protesters ...to the Senate's appall;
Then what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a colorful bus, resounding with cheer;
With thousands of people, probably much more,
I knew that it must be …a Tea Party tour.
Jingling with bells, these protesters they came,
As they whistled and shouted and called out by name:
Now Reid, now Dodd, now Baucus, and Durbin
On Schumer, on Boxer, on Feinstein, and Franken!
"You work for us!" and we have the clout
Hear us tonight, or we'll vote you all out;
As dry leaves before the wild hurricane tumble,
When they meet with an obstacle, simply then crumble;
So into their limos, the senators, they fled
Killing the bill ...bad reform was now dead;
And then in a twinkling, I heard from the crowd
The roar of a cheer …'twas really quite loud;
With more ringing of bells, songs, and much fun,
It soon became clear that their work was now done;
But I heard them exclaim, as they drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to All and To All a Good Night!"
